Leeds outfit Green Gardens continue to bless our ears with the paired release of ‘Greeting’ and ‘I Am Kind’, indie meets mid-west emo in a kaleidoscope of warmth and reflection.
‘Greeting’ arrives first in a haze of low fidelity and atmospherics, its foggy textures and sharp guitars setting the scene of an internal struggle. There’s a gentle tension as the band explore the difficulties of desire, change and control. Sitting just under two and a half minutes ‘Greeting’ poses the question to which ‘I Am Kind’ is the answer.
Stretching past the seven minute mark, ‘I Am Kind’ unfolds gently, trading the former’s restless fog for something more patient and hopeful. Strings swell around the vocals as the song builds, reaching an early crescendo of pure and simple bliss. Released at the perfect time, ‘I Am Kind’ arrives like the first sun of the new year, leaving the dark behind and starting to believe that things might get better after all.
Together, ‘Greeting’ and ‘I Am Kind’ highlight what Green Gardens do best: crafting music that feels both fragile and lovingly immense. Where many bands lean into lo-fi textures for mood alone, Green Gardens use them to frame something more human. It’s emotional, honest and simply beautiful.
