With their new single ‘Static Blur’, Leeds-based quintet Wedgy embark on their latest journey of musical experimentation to establish their defining multi-dimensional sound and distinct band identity. Released on May 15th, ‘Static Blur’ pays homage to its name with six minutes and thirty-five seconds of what can only be described as a transcendent adventure through TV static fuzziness and a cloudy haze of shoegaze goodness.
Following the release of their previous single ‘Wasn’t Present In Me’ in March of this year, Wedgy carry over their trademark fuzziness into their second single of 2026 – their muffled gritty guitars and shimmering synths that sprinkle themselves throughout the track serve as the strong foundations for ‘Static Blur’. Both complimenting and contrasting eachother at different moments throughout the song, Wedgy use their recognisable and familiar compositional elements to create something entirely new structurally for the band; the glitter and the grit break eachother up from verse, to chorus, to bridge, coming together to end ‘Static Blur’ with maxmium grandiosity.
The track takes its time, rising and falling again and again – underlined with a gradual building of emotion and atmosphere, yet lacking any real sense of urgency or haste, ‘Static Blur’ unapologetically leans into it’s extensive duration to create a truly sublime and deeply atmospheric listening experience. With consideration of their self-titled debut EP released in November last year, ‘Static Blur’ is definitely Wedgy’s most transcendant track yet, marking a new era for the band in terms of composition, artistic direction, and band identity.
Stream ‘Static Blur’ on your preferred platform or catch the live version at Belgrave Music Hall Leeds where Wedgy will be supporting Swedish Emo/Noisepop artist Weatherday on May 30th.
